Endemol Shine Boomdog Names Leonardo Zimbron Head of Scripted Programming

September 10, 2018—Endemol Shine Boomdog, a division of Endemol Shine North America, has named accomplished television and film producer Leonardo Zimbron as its new head of scripted programming, it was announced today by Endemol Shine Boomdog CEO Alejandro Rincon. 

Zimbron has extensive film and TV production credits, having produced some of the top performing films in Mexico’s history, as well as numerous hit television series including Netflix’s first original production in Mexico, “Club de Cuervos,” which was recently renewed for a fourth season.

Endemol Shine Boomdog was formed last year when Endemol Shine North America merged its Spanish language division Endemol Shine Latino with Mexico City-based production company Boomdog. The newly combined studio, which has offices and production facilities in Mexico City and Miami, is focused on developing and producing scripted and unscripted content for the U.S. Hispanic and Mexican TV markets.

Endemol Shine Boomdog now produces many of the top series in the region, including “MasterChef Mexico” (TV Azteca), “Mira Quién Baila” (Univision), “Chumel con Chumel Torres” (HBO), “Se Busca Comediante” (Comedy Central), as well as, “MasterChef Latino” (Telemundo) and the highly anticipated drama series “Nicky Jam: El Ganador” (Telemundo/Netflix). Endemol Shine Boomdog also recently produced scripted hit “El Vato” for both Netflix and Universo and is developing dramas “To Selena with Love,” “El Clan” and “Subete a Mi Moto—The History of Menudo.”

Zimbron has an extensive body of work in both television and film, most recently serving as a founding partner in Traziende Films. In 2005, Zimbron launched Warner Bros. Pictures’ local production operations in Mexico. With the studio, Zimbron produced numerous successful films including “Efectos Secundarios,” “Bajo la Sal,” “No eres tu soy yo” and “Viento en Contra.”

In 2013, Zimbron released the movie, “Nosotros los Nobles,” Gary Alazraki's debut film, breaking the Mexican box office record and becoming the top film of all time on all platforms in Mexico. On the international side, he has produced such hits as “Pulling Strings” and “Darker than Night,” which was the first 3D action movie produced in Mexico.

Zimbron has been invited to give seminars and conferences in Mexico, USA, the Dominican Republic and Brazil, including the International Film Festival of Miami, International Meeting of Creative Industries in Sao Paulo, the World Forum of Investment in Cinema in Santo Domingo, International Festivals of Guanajuato and Guadalajara, among others. And he has represented Mexico in various international meetings, through the Mexican Institute of Cinematography, Proméxico and he has been a jury member in international festivals such as the Tribecca Film Festival. 

Zimbron also developed a digital distribution platform at Newborn Entertainment, where he served as Content and Production Director. There he developed the largest live 3D digital network in the world at the time for Cinépolis, through which the 2010 FIFA World Cup was screened for the first time on more than 110 live 3D screens.

Endemol Shine Boomdog is the new Spanish-language division of Endemol Shine North America, developing and producing original content for the U.S. Hispanic and Mexican TV markets. The division was formed in November 2017, when Endemol Shine Latino joined forces with Mexico City-based production company Boomdog to form Endemol Shine Boomdog.
