Endemol Shine Boomdog Developing Next Batch of Comedy Hits with Signing of Top Talent
Studio Announces Development Deals with Comedy Stars Fran Hevia, Alex Fernandez, Michelle Rodriguez, Ricardo O’Farrill and El Diablito
Boomdog Already Behind Many of Region’s Top Comedy Series Like Chumel Con Chumel Torres, Me Caigo de Risa, Se Rentan Cuartos and Last One Laughing
January 15, 2020 — Endemol Shine Boomdog, a division of Endemol Shine North America, has signed a bounty of top comedic talent and is developing a slate of original new scripted and unscripted comedy series, it was announced today by Alvaro Godoy, Head of Development, Endemol Shine Boomdog.
Endemol Shine Boomdog, which produces such popular comedy series as Chumel Con Chumel Torres for HBO Latin America,Last One Laughing (LOL) for Amazon Prime, Nailed It (Mexico) for Netflix, Me Caigo de Risa and Quién es la Máscara for Televisa and the breakout new sitcom Se Rentan Cuartos for Comedy Central, is looking to develop the next batch of scripted and unscripted comedy programming.
The studio has signed award-winning talent Fran Hevia (Se Rentan Cuartos), Alex Fernandez (LOL), Michelle Rodriguez (LOL, Me Caigo de Risa), Ricardo O’Farrill (LOL) and El Diablito (Se Busca Comediante, LOL) to develop a handful of new series that Boomdog’s team will be taking to buyers this winter.
“Endemol Shine Boomdog has a long history developing some of the most popular comedic series in the region,” says Godoy, who formerly served as a comedy writer himself on Chumel Con Chumel Torres and La Sopa. “And we are thrilled to now be working with some of the best writers and on-camera talent that exists within our industry to create a slate of new comedy programming for the next decade.”
New series in development include Mananas Magicas, a sketch comedy show headlined by Fran Hevia, Alex Fernandez and Michelle Rodriguez. Janguea y Rapea, a music and comedy show with Ricardo O’Farrill and Me Lleva el Diablo, a comedy transformation reality series hosted by El Diablito.
“Comedy always saves us. I think people really want stories they can relate to, they want to laugh and feel complicit with the characters who tell those stories,” says Michelle Rodriguez. “I have always enjoyed my relationship working with the team at Endemol Shine Boomdog and I think the audience is going to love our next project together.”
“I just want to get started on ‘Mañanas Mágicas’ tomorrow,” says Alex Fernandez. “I mean, working with Michelle and Fran not only is extremely fun, I deeply admire both of them and I simply click with them in terms of comedy. They haven’t told me the same, but you can quote them.”
El Diablito added, “After one season of ‘Se Busca Comediante’ and two seasons of ‘LOL,’ I feel that teaming up with Endemol Shine Boomdog for a comedy show like ‘Me Lleva el Diablo’ is a guarantee for success… plus, we are going to have a blast doing it.”
Earlier this year, Endemol Shine Boomdog, a division of Endemol Shine North America, announced it was teaming with improv and sketch comedy theatre troupe Upright Citizens Brigade to develop the next wave of Spanish comedy talent. As part of that pact, Boomdog and UCB jointly launched the first-ever Spanish language comedy boot camp to cultivate both writers and performers to participate in an untitled sketch comedy show.
Endemol Shine Boomdog has a rich history in comedy development and production, including such past hits as La Sopa Mexico for E! Entertainment Television, Se Busca Comediante for Comedy Central, International Emmy-winning series El Vatofor Netflix/NBCUniverso and Ya es Mediodia en China for Sony Entertainment Television.
Endemol Shine Boomdog currently produces such hit series as Chumel Con Chumel (HBO), MasterChef Latino (Telemundo), MasterChef Mexico (Azteca), Mira Quien Baila (Televisa/Univision), Nicky Jam: El Ganador (Netflix), LOL (Amazon) and Me Caigo de Risa (Televisa). The studio’s initial drama series El Vato (Netflix/Universo) was honored last year with an International Emmy Award.
Endemol Shine Boomdog recently announced an unprecedented production and development deal with Televisa and the two sides teamed up for the record-breaking Mexican launch of the hit MBC series Quién es la Máscara (The Masked Singer) earlier this season. Late last year, Amazon Prime announced it has licensed the studio’s upcoming drama series Súbete a mi Moto, which is being produced alongside Somos Productions and Piñolywood Studios.
Latin superstar actress Kate del Castillo (La Reina del Sur) also recently signed an overall deal with Endemol Shine Boomdog to develop, produce and star in original scripted and unscripted series with the studio. And the studio just signed a development and production deal with acclaimed producer Gaston Pavlovich and his Mexico City-based production company Fabrica de Cine.
