Endemol Shine Group Announces New Plans for Collaboration Across Spanish and Portuguese Language Markets in the Americas

October 22, 2015 - Global content creator, producer and distributor Endemol Shine Group today announced plans to further increase its commitment to the Spanish and Portuguese speaking markets with a new strategic focus across genres, including a renewed drive into scripted and digital video programming, starting in early 2016.

Laurens Drillich, currently CEO of Endemol Shine Netherlands, will become President of Endemol Shine Latino, reporting to Endemol Shine North America Co-Chairmen and Co-CEOs, Cris Abrego and Charlie Corwin.  Laurens has previously overseen Endemol’s business in both the Hispanic U.S. market and Mexico.

Laurens will establish and head up a new central hub in Miami that will connect and oversee Endemol Shine Group’s business across Hispanic U.S. and Mexico, as well as all production operations in Argentina, Brazil, Chile and Peru and format sales activities across Latin America, pooling creativity and resources across markets.

CEO and Creative Director for Latin America, Martin Kweller will be Creative Director for the new hub, whilst continuing to oversee Endemol Shine Argentina as Chairman and CEO, as well as Latin America regionally as Operations Director.

Endemol Shine Latino’s Co-Executive Vice Presidents Daniel Rodriguez and Mauricio Piccone, will continue in their roles, respectively overseeing sales and programming initiatives in the Hispanic U.S. market and Mexico.

Endemol Shine Group is the largest independent producer in Latin America with production bases in Argentina, Brazil, Chile and Peru as well as a regional sales operation serving all of these markets.   The Group’s ratings successes in the region include Big Brother, Masterchef, My Name Is, Spanish originated format Your Face Sounds Familiar and Endemol Shine Argentina’s Last Passenger, Step Right Up and Hit The Note.  The company is also a successful producer of Latin American dramas and telenovelas, including The Successful Mr. and Mrs. Pells, Graduates and Legacy of Rock & Roll, and is now launching premium digital video content via its local hub, Endemol Beyond Brazil.

The company also has a long-term partnership with Globo in Brazil where 15 series of Big Brother as well as multiple seasons of Fear Factor, Strictly Dancing, Next One!, Step Right Up and other titles have achieved ratings success.

In the Hispanic U.S. market and Mexico, Endemol Shine Latino has launched and sold numerous series and formats this year. Big Brother debuted earlier this month in Mexico on Televisa and is set to make its U.S. Spanish-language debut on Telemundo in January. In addition, the success of MasterChef Mexico on TV Azteca over the summer has resulted in a second season pick up and Endemol Shine Latino’s first scripted project in the U.S., El Vato starring music sensation El Dasa, is slated to premiere on NBC Universo in early 2016.

Laurens Drillich is an Emmy award winning producer and director, who previously oversaw Endemol's business in the U.S. Hispanic market and Mexico. He was Chairman and CEO of Dutch broadcaster BNN, held a number of senior roles at media companies such as Veronica and RTL and most recently was CEO of Endemol Shine Netherlands, the largest production company in Holland with programming across all genres, including scripted, sports, digital, journalism, documentaries, entertainment and reality.

Martin Kweller has over 25 years’ experience in the media industry and founded production company Producciones y Publicidad, which was acquired by Endemol in 2000 and became Endemol Argentina.  Under his leadership Endemol Argentina has become the country’s largest independent production company with output that combines locally created and international titles across genres including game shows, factual, reality, drama and comedy.  Endemol Argentina also established a global production hub for formats such as Wipeout, XXS and 101 Ways to Leave a Gameshow with more than 700 episodes produced for more than 30 countries, and currently produces pan-regional projects for leading international cable TV broadcasters.

Boudewijn Beusmans, Group Commercial Officer of Endemol Shine Group and Iris Boelhouwer, the company’s former Managing Director of Creative Operations will become Joint CEOs of Endemol Shine Netherlands in early 2016, replacing Laurens Drillich.
